Ot # 173202

173202 was assigned to a 17' Otca with keel delivered to the University of Maryland, in College Park, MD on September 11, 1963. The build record does not indicate other information about woods used etc. It was painted with design #46. A copy of the build record and the design #46 are attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

By the way, while searching for this record, I came across another shipment to the University. Just for giggles, I poked around through build records +/- 100 of the boat in question and found that this boat was part of a larger shipment on 9/11/63 that included:

173136 - 15', 50# with design # 45
173141 - 15', 50# with design # 4
173180 - 17' Otca with design #45 and rubrails*
173191 - 17' Otca with design #4
173233 - 16' Otca with design #4

*NOTE: Rubrails were part of Design #45 - This build record mentioned them specifically but the other one did not.

There may be others in the same shipment since the records are filed by sequential build record, not shipping date or location.

Memo to self... Get a life!

Inquiring minds want to know...
