16-77955 Old Town Looks in great shape. Says it was from 1923, Mahogany, the build record might have be requested before, searched but no luck, wants $1500 for it. So I'm still looking for something, I like Morris but none around here. Thanks in advance for the build record.

Hi Jeff--

I do seem to remember this canoe's record... it has a distinctive and cool color design.

Old Town 77955 is a 16 foot AA grade (mahogany trimmed) Charles River model with open mahogany gunwales-- and (naturally) mahogany decks/seats/thwarts. It was painted yellow with an ebony border stripe and a 1/2" orange stripe with turned down ends... so, there's a wide ebony stripe edged in orange that follows the gunwales and swoops around the curve of the stems... a very "Charles River-ish" design.

Anyway... here's the scan, below. Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. If what you really want is a Morris, will you be happy with this canoe? Once you know how to recognize the canoe species of your dreams, it can magically enter your life. Ask Dan Lindberg.

One of our Morris canoes spent most of its life in Alaska... so they aren't necessarily all in the East. And you know when you've become.... uhhh... whatever it is that happens to the brain... when you'll cross many states for a canoe that you never saw except in a picture.

There will be canoes for sale at the Assembly in July... probably several of the Morris persuasion.

But this does sound like a very nice Old Town. The Charles River is a pretty canoe... and it would be spectacular in its original colors, IMHO.

Thanks Kathy, The canoe has been re-canvased so not sure what the paint job was like original. From the pictures it looks to be in great shape, not sure on the price, but it is in Denver. I will go take a look at it and toss it over. I just don't want a total fix everything , but am really partial to Morris canoes.

Long Drives

The first Morris we bought was only a day's drive away. Since then, fetching a canoe has become "a trip": an adventure that has included exploring parts of the world we'd only seen in pictures... but more importantly, it's included visiting, along the way, with people who are members of WCHA.

We've also found that sellers are very understanding re those of us who are unsure of driving into huge metro areas, and can be willing to drive part of the way... at least far enough to meet where traffic isn't a problem.

I figured he might of posted here for information. I like the original paint scheme to Kathy.
I will get a look at it. Maybe for the help of an out of town buyer. Andres new Morris looks great. I won't be at the assembly but wouldn't mind a few pictures and a t-shirt. I'll let you know how it looks. He might list it here.
