Old Town Yankee model, design #4 paint, serial [182630 17] just bought from FB marketplace in Colorado. person had it 'abandoned' on his property by neighbor who split with no forwarding details. at one point the previous owner was an enthusiast as they had very nice bent paddles from late 1990's and parts of sailing kit rig with two skegs and the original paddles with matching emblem (pretty wore off) to that is seen on the bow. the emblem suggests boat is late 1960's vintage. has a bit of paint about hand sized missing on bottom mid and was surprised by the grey glass under the paint is thicker than was expecting which suggests it might have the more robust bottom? have not given detail cleaning yet or review of wood state. but looks overall good for 50+

Welcome and congratulations, the build record for the Old Town canoe with serial number 182630 shows a 17 foot long Otca model with a keel, outside stems, and a bang plate along the full length of the keel. It was built between February and March, 1969. The original exterior paint design was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design04.gif which was known as their design number four. It shipped on March 24th, 1969 to Troy, Ohio. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

excellent. I was curious what was on bottom. a bit of paint is off like from a sun blister the size of my hand on bottom and i was expecting to see canvas over wood but 'bang plate' ... wow. over all this little vessel just needs deep cleaning and wood treatment and a bit of bottom paint on that one spot. I am excited by this find. thank you. at the moment I am unemployed looking for next contract / work... doge closed our engineering work for usda and its a rough market for business analyst and software delivery right now. as soon as i can i will pay for member ship and support these organizations
