Am looking for build info for a 15 ft. Old Town Trapper I recently re-canvassed. Canoe had aluminum stem bands so I'm guessing it was built sometime in the late 60's when brass was at a premium.
The Old Town canoe with serial number 181684 is a 15 foot long lightweight model with a keel. It was built between October and November, 1968 and shipped on May 29th, 1969 to East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The original exterior paint color was listed as pale blue but the truck driver who delivered it said that it was painted dark green when it came off the truck on June 6th, 1969. It was returned from the dealer for repairs on November 8th, 1975 as shown on the back side of the card. They changed their mind and no repairs were done. It was then shipped back on February 16th, 1976. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links behind the thumbnail images attached below.
These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Brass stem bands were last listed on page five of the 1965 catalog and aluminum stem bands were first mentioned on page four of the 1968 catalog. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,
