The Old Town canoe with serial number 5905 is 16 feet long so that isn't a good match. The one with number 155905 is an 18 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Guide model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, and a keel. It was built between May and September, 1951. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It shipped on December 7th, 1951 to Chicago, Illinois. A scan of this build record can be found below.
This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Your life membership to the WCHA is much appreciated.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. The sail rig is not mentioned on the build record so that was probably added after it left the factory. Page nine of the 1951 catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_843801729151430ebd83fbba79dfea61.pdf has more details. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
