Charles Rivers
Hello Franny-- Sounds like you have a couple nice canoes.
Old Town 6381 is a 16 foot AA grade Charles River with Western red cedar planking-- mahogany decks, thwarts, seats, gunwales, painted dark green and sent to Rochester, NY 3/31/1908.
(96381 is a fifteen foot, 50 pounder, so that one doesn't seem to be what you have.)
Old Town 25143 is a 17 foot AA grade Ideal with Western red cedar planking and open mahogany wales and a keel (I am assuming you know that the Ideal is a Charles River with all the bells and whistles). It was painted DG-- dark green? and shipped to Boston MA 3/17/1913.
The build records are attached below. If these don't seem to be your boats, we can keep looking. If you'd like pictures of your canoes as they appear in the catalogs of the appropriate year, just ask.
Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at
