I received an Old Town canoe serial number 208511 (stamped in hull) or XTC08511M75L (plastic plate riveted to hull), both on the same side of the hull. I would appreciate any information available. Thank you for your effort and time.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 208511 and hull identification number XTC08511M75L is a 16 foot long Chipewyan model that weighed 65 pounds. It was built in June, 1975. The original exterior color was green. It shipped on July 15th, 1975 to Cheshire, Conn. The back side of this scan shows that the skin was scuffed and torn. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Hi Benson,
I am grateful for your response and for all of the efforts the WCHA has made preserving these records. Thank you for your passion and your quick response time. I have converted the Chipewyan from the original plastic (I received only the Royalex hull) to northern white ash components. Thank you for adding the history. My customer received the canoe from the original owner as it turns out. Thanks again!
