Old Town Serial Number Request for 109217

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I rescued this 16' Old Town 2 weeks ago from further rot as it was exposed to the elements. Will take a lot of work to bring this one back to life but man I like the curves of this classic canoe. The rear thwart seems original but is wide and has a "50" brass tag on it. It seems original since all diamond bolt holes are in tact. Suspect it is early 1930's. It would be interesting to see the build sheet. Appreciate any info.

Thanks

The Old Town canoe with serial number 109217 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open oak gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, half ribs, and a keel. It was built between February and March, 1931. The original exterior paint color was turkey red. It was shipped on April 9th, 1931 to Ann Arbor, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. A similar one is shown at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/13887/ from last year. The brass thwart tag indicates that it was probably used in a livery or summer camp at some point. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
