Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
Hello, I'm looking for a build sheet for Old Town (probable) 129414 17. Many thanks! Lex

The Old Town canoe with serial number 129414 is shown as 18 feet long, AA(top) grade, HW (heavy water) model with open mahogany gunwales, Mahogany decks, seats, and thwarts, and fitted with a keel and a floor rack. The canoe was built between February 1940 and April 1941. The original exterior paint color was dark green and it was treated with Smith’s Sealer. It was shipped to Lincolnville, Maine in July of 1941 – the exact date is not readable. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
Greg

Thanks for the information! The 18' with a "17" on the stem puzzles me some. I'm checking for a freind but he said the canoe does have diamond head bolts. He is going to double check the serial # and let me know. If it is different I'll post again.
Interesting story about this canoe... I took a buddy to the Okefenokee WCHA trip last fall. His 1st experience with wood canoes. He gets back to work and tells about his trip. A co worker said that he had an old wood canoe in a barn in NY. Long story short, he picked it up in NY and brought it to GA to my buddy for free. Maybe a WCHA member prospect!

It appears we had one number wrong. Greg, could you please check 129413-17?
Thanks again,
Lex
