Thank you WCHA volunteers!

I recently purchased this canoe to restore for my wedding. Hoping to get as much information as possible so I can keep it original.

Thanks!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 115950 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between May and July, 1935. The original exterior paint was dark green. It shipped on April 7th, 1936 to Baltimore, Maryland. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration and wedding,

Benson

Thanks Benson, this is great info. Do you happen to know what wood the ribs are made out of on these canoes? As you can see by picture #2, I need to replace about 8-10 broken ribs.
