Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
Hi
Restoring 16' Old Town guide #162492. Could someone please post the record page.
Thanks, Kevin Martin

The Old Town canoe with serial number 162492 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Guide's model with a keel and a floor rack. It was built between October, 1954 and January, 1955. The original exterior paint color was Yale blue on the bottom with white on top with two different names on the left bow and right stern. It shipped on February 2nd, 1955 to Amsterdam, New York but was damaged in transit and returned on February 23rd, 1955. The repairs required a new rib, some rail work, and refinishing for $112.65 as shown on the back side of the card. It was then resold to Auburn, Maine on December 6th, 1956. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links behind the thumbnail images attached below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
