Your boat just passed a birthday on a date shared by a much more somber one. Canoe 171295 is a 16' Guide Model, built without a keel or seats (thwarts instead) and originally painted pale blue. It was shipped to Orlando, Florida on September 11, 1961. A copy of the build record is attached.
Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Thank you for the quick response to my documentation request. I was very much suprised to learn that my canoe shipped from the factory exactly 40 years, to the day, prior to the great tragedy. Since I posted my documentation request just one day after the canoe's birthday (unknown to me at the time of posting), this was very close to being a rare coincidence.
