Old Town canoe serial # 174240 18

The Old Town canoe with serial number 174240 is an 18 foot long Guide model that was built on the Otca form with half ribs, no keel, and narrow two and 3/4 inch planking. It was built between September, 1964 and March, 1965. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) Green. It was shipped on April 2nd, 1965 to Old Town, Maine.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Many thanks! This canoe was bought by my Dad and was passed down to me several years before he died. It's fascinating to see the build history. Although I don't have the sail rigging any more, I do have the canoe. It's still as beautiful as when Dad bought it! It was one of his prized possessions and now it's one of mine. Being half Indian Dad knew how to handle a canoe and taught me well.
