Old Town Canoe S/N 174370

I'm sure Benson or someone will get in touch with you soon. we'll have the info. Did you by any chance get this in New Jersey, it sounds like a number like one I saw in an auction today. Dave

There are members that can provide information for the serial number specific build record.
While you wait and if you are keen on doing a bit of reading (and becoming familiar with how these members are able to provide you with such detail you might follow this link:
http://wcha.org/legacypages/ot_records/

You can ballpark the build date with this:

Currently out of stock here, this is never the less a book you might want to purchase if you can locate a copy:
http://store.wcha.org/The-Old-Town-Canoe-Company.html

If you want to go "all in" you can purchase your own copy the Old Town Build records:
http://store.wcha.org/Old-Town-Build-Records-on-CD-ROM.html

If the bugger needs a bit of restoration you will find related books in the WHCA store. Most of us have a copy (why do I have 3?) of this book, the one many of us learned about Maine Canoes and basic canoe construction from:http://store.wcha.org/The-Wood-and-Canvas-Canoe.html
There are other newer books that I have not read yet...can't hurt to own too many books...

Eventually you will likely ask, what is my canoe worth? It's likely that it's sentimental value will scale higher than it's monetary value. The good new is that you have avoided the cost of a new boat..new builds can be a bit pricey... do not confuse new build cost with old boat value: Read some of our thoughts about that here:http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57-How-much-is-my-old-wooden-canoe-worth

Post pictures if you wish...we are always interested in looking at canoes... most of us have been cut off from buying any more until we sell a few off.. Looking does not take up garage/basement/barn space.
