This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
Benson, thank you very much for the information. After rechecking the serial number on the canoe I discovered I had an incorrect digit. The correct serial number for the canoe is 66952. Any information you have will be appreciated. Sincerely, Paul
The Old Town canoe with serial number 66952 is a 17 foot long, AA grade, Otca model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, a floor rack, and a painter ring. It was built between July, 1921 and January, 1922. The original exterior paint color was primrose yellow with a 5/8 inch black stripe edged in light green. This may have looked similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design43.gif with different colors and dimensions. It was shipped on March 3rd, 1922 to Albany, New York. The note on the back side of this record from 1973 indicates that it may have been in Averill Park, New York when there was a previous request for a copy of the build record. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.
You have already seen the rest of the standard message from the previous response so I won't repeat it again here. This seems like a much better match given the similarities of the names.
