Welcome, the build record for this canoe is shown near the end of the messages at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/15975/ from a previous request. It is not unusual for canoes with four digit serial numbers to have at least one hidden digit or to be from another manufacturer so pictures can help with the identification.
Thank you Benson. The canoe I'm inquiring about is the same one from the previous thread you referred me to. Being new to the forum, I'm not sure photos will come through, but here is what the seller was able to send me. Hopefully they will help clear things up. Thanks again, Bryan
The Old Town canoe with serial number 166924 is a 16 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between December, 1957 and February, 1958. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 22nd, 1958 to Rhinelander, Wisconsin. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.
It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the purchase,
