Retry at posting a thread. Apologies if this is a duplicate.

We are planning on restoring this canoe ourselves. It has always been in the same family and we wish to be USED in the family for generations.

Any information about the history, construction timeframe and shipping destination will be appreciated and enjoyed.

Thanks in advance,

tc NW Lower Michigan

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 137138 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between March and July, 1943. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on July 20th, 1943 to the Pittsburgh, Penna. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Canoes with a family history are always especially nice. Good luck with the restoration.

Benson

Thank you Benson and the WCHA Forum !!
The history of the canoe (137138) has been a great deal of fun for the family.
So much fun,.. we have another number from another family canoe -- I will submit a new post for that canoe to not create confusion.
thanks to all, tc
