As you know, it's a special thing to have a family canoe to restore-- and you've found the place where you can get any questions answered while you restore your grandfather's canoe.
Old Town 136529 is a 15 foot CS (common sense or middle) grade 50 pound model canoe that was completed November 1942-May 1943. It has open spruce gunwales, ash decks/thwarts/seats, a keel, and was originally dark green. It was shipped to Rumford, ME, on May 11, 1943. There's a notation on the reverse-- an inquiry from Exeter, NH, on 11/29/86.
Canoes of this era may have some construction differences due to wartime shortages. It's not uncommon to find slat seats rather than cane and steel tacks.
