Curious about Wooden Canoes
Good evening! I'm curious what information is available on this boat: 114749-17. I've got some information from the current owners, but I'd like to augment what they've told me. Any information would be appreciated!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 114749 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, and a keel. It was built between November, 1934 and February, 1935. The original exterior paint color was fire red. It shipped on March 21st, 1935 to Seattle, Washington. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

@Benson Gray wonderful!! It appears we have a match! The canoe still resides in the state, but near olympia, WA now. Possibly with the original canvas, as well.

Thank you so much!

Andy
