Old Town 108839 16

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 108839 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Yankee model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between January, 1931 and June, 1933. The original exterior paint design was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design39.gif which was known as the design number 39. It shipped on June 14th, 1933 to Glens Falls, New York. The canoe returned for repairs on October 18th, 1944 as shown on the back side of the card. It was shipped back on January 2nd, 1945 to Dover Foxcroft, Maine. There was a letter asking for a copy of this build record on September 14th, 1983. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
