New Cheemaun

Jerry Fruetel

A well built wooden canoe is a work of art
Attached are a few pics of the Cheemaun I finished earlier this year. I temporarily swapped my Atkinson Traveler mold for a Cheemaun mold from Urban Boatbuilders, the St. Paul non-profit that works with at-risk teens. This Cheemaun design by Rollin Thurlow is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a canoe to meet both solo and tandem paddling needs.

Thanks to fellow WCHA members for tips on using micro-balloons in canvas filler (Pat Chapman), deck dimensions (Steve Ambrose), and roll and tip painting (Todd Bradshaw).

Happy Holidays!... Jerry

Very cool paint scheme! The Cheemaun presents some challenges due to the fullness Rollin carried into the ends - looks like a great job!
