Hi all! I’m happy to find a website dedicated to wooden canoes! Very cool to see a community like this and to be able to join so easily. I just purchased this old town canoe as a birthday present for my brother and I was hoping to get more info on it before I gift it to him. The canoe is in excellent condition and adventure ready. Thanks for any info!

Nick

Hi Nick,

I'm not sure what more information you're looking for. The build record has its individual details, and the canoe looks to be in outstanding condition. It has a floor rack which is not shown on the build record. Odd, but maybe it was purchased later or somehow got left off the build record. It is also possible that the serial number queried was incorrect (though this seems unlikely as clean as the canoe is). The floor rack would normally be mounted flipped over relative to how it is now, so that the cross-pieces fit down between the ribs. Here is a description of your canoe model from the 1940 catalog:

Hi Michael, thanks for your quick reply. The catalog page is fun to have thank you for sharing. I was looking for something like that so I appreciate it!

Originally shipped not far from me. That folding canoe seat is interesting. Can't say I've seen one exactly like it. It is likely native American especially with the red tassels. Is there a name on it?

Once upon a time it may have, looks like the labels were taken off. Here’s a photo of what’s left on it.
