Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
Just came home with this new-to-me 17ft Morris, #14067 (1916 I believe). It's in nice condition - albeit with 3 or 4 cracked ribs! Nice mahogany seats, thwarts, and decks. No outer rails, but o-well. But did come with a nice paddle. Also has a floor board - not sure of the wood yet. Measures 32 5/8" from the outer edges of the inner rails. Anybody have a guess as to the model?
Note that the front seat has a half-circle cutout for a mast, with corresponding screw holes on the bottom of the canoe for a mast seat. The seat seems original, and I see no signs that the other half of the mast hole was cut away. And check out the folded metal part that's screwed to the underside of the front seat that has the full hole for the mast. Weird.
And how about this chunky keel: 1-3/8" wide and 1-3/8" tall
