Michigan Steel Rowboat

Gil Cramer

The wooden canoe Shop, Inc.
14' Michigan Steel Boat Co. rowboat built in Detroit in the same building as the Detroit Boat Co. and Detroit marine engine manufacturers. Crimped and soldered galvanized strips built very similar to a wooden lapstrake row boat. Elm ribs, cypress seats, stringers, floorboards, etc. Bow and stern have sealed galvanized flotation chambers. Surprisingly, not really too heavy, maybe 150lbs. Definitely not a wooden hull, but a really interesting almost century old boat owned by the Detroit Historical Museum.

That is quite interesting, would not expect that style to be made of steel. Very stylish. I had one of their 14' traditional row boats briefly. It was a beast. I parted company with that battleship after realizing fishing would be impossible after having a heart attack moving it.
