looking for information on new to me canoe

Good day everyone I just got this canoe and could not quickly find any information on the possible builder, does anyone have any ideas?

It doesn't look familiar to me or there is no obvious match to anything at http://wcha.org/catalogs/maine-list.htm on the list of Maine canoe builders. Most strip built canoes like this are home made. Let us know if you ever figure it out. Thanks,

The serial number appears to be a date. Maybe that could help your ID.

The builder's inscription looks like it was hand-done on the canoe, may have been from a home builder, perhaps someone who was thinking of making this a small business. I don't see anything that indicates it was made in Maine; could have been made anywhere even if you found it near your home. You may be aware that this is often called a "stripper", and thousands of these have been built in garages, basements and barns over the last few decades. In any case, the hull looks to be in good condition, uncompromised from what's visible in the photos. The trim has some rot and a lot of finish loss. If you plan to enjoy it, you'd be wise to try to get rid of the rot and apply a few coats of a good varnish that contains UV shields.
