Looking for history and avenues for the sale of family heirloom sailing canoe

I'm looking for info ...... regarding an Old Town Sailing canoe gifted to my Dad just after WWII. The numbers are 105917 16. I believe the boat to be suitable for restoration and it's time to find someone who can do that. It is complete except for the sail which is rotten..... Family history indicates original purchase by an uncle (last name Hart). I hope to find someone local-ish for restoration and obtain a suitable trailer so I can manage to launch sail the canoe of my childhood.

The Old Town with serial number 105917 is a 14 foot long All Wood Sea Model boat so that isn't a good match. Can you provide some pictures of the serial numbers from each end? Thanks,

Benson

Hmmmm, I'm not much on technology....... may take more that a minute. My phone pics don't want to go over to be pulled up on laptop. I can easily send pic of serial number by phone but don't know how to get it to this thread.

My guess is that you have the Old Town canoe with serial number 105911. This is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, twenty inch oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, a keel, and floor rack. It was built between April and June, 1930. The original exterior paint color was bright red. It shipped on June 21st, 1930 to New York City. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. A listing at http://www.wcha.org/classifieds is usually the best way to find a good new home for a canoe like this. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/ad-instructions for a description of the process. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sale,

Benson
