Looking for build history

I recently purchased an Old Town wooden canoe & would like to restore it. Having the build history would be helpful. It is SN: 172477 16.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 172477 is an 16 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between September and November, 1962. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on May 31st, 1963 to New Orleans, La. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson

Thanks for the information. This craft was set up as a sailing canoe. All of the parts to sail her came with the boat & are in very nice shape except for the sail being a bit chewed up & the mast having a bit of rot at the bottom. Were sailing rigs accessories that would have been added after original purchase?

Yes, sail rigs and other accessories could be added after the original purchase or installed at the factory. Yours does not appear to have been included when it was first built and shipped since it is not mentioned on the build record. Happy sailing,

Benson
