Kennebec Boat and Canoe #2976 Kino Special

If any one has a thought as to the age of this troubled beauty and if it’s worth a restoration or not I would appreciate it. It been at my camp for 15 years -likely 40 with the prior owners and it likely date back to when the camp was the executive retreat for members of the NY Central Railroad. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Greg,
Welcome to the WCHA! Your Kineo is on the earlier side of Kennebec canoes with that earlier number. Doesn't seem to bad from the few pictures attached. Someone will be along with the factory records but certainly a restoration candidate. The broken inner gunnel looks to be the hardest part of the restoration. Clear spruce is worth its weight in gold these days. Almost worth replacing it with sitka spruce but that's not cheap either. Either way a decent canoe. I own a Kennebec and have restored another years ago.

In a typically Kennebecian confusing way, the serial number of your canoe is actually 102976 (the leading digits represented by the "M" on the tag.

Your canoe was built in 1931, per the attached excerpt from the Kennebec ledgers. I've also attached the catalog page from 1931 showing the Kineo Special model.
