Curious about Wooden Canoes
I just brought home a wood and canvas canoe. The person I bought it from said it was an Old Town. It is about 14 feet long. The serial number is 182420. I would be most appreciative if someone would look-up the serial number for me.

Thanks!

Hi Brian--

Double-check the number if this doesn't seem right-- or post a picture.

Old Town 182420 is a 16 foot Otca model, fitted with a keel and painted the ever-popular design #4, then shipped to Bill and Ed's Marine in Garden, MA, on 10/6/1972.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy

Thanks Kathy. I really don't think this canoe is 16 feet long, but I'll measure it and take some pictures when it stops raining...probably tomorrow afternoon.

It stopped raining for a few minutes, so I slipped out to measure and take Pictures

The canoe is 16 feet long. I also found a 16 after the serial number at one end.

I think this is the canoe that you posted the card for.
