It appears that you have a Penn Yan Owasco model, 18' long (this from the "OE" designation). These were built by the Penn Yan Boat company, Penn Yan, NY, in the 1940s and 1950s. Yours was likely built in 1948, the first two digits of the serial number. It appears that your canoe is largely as original with its spruce gunwales and other trim in mahogany. The keel, outside stems, and half ribs were standard, and the standard color was a blue-green with a red stripe under the gunwales. Your canoe could be a custom color, or more likely it has been re-painted at some point in its history (it looks like the interior has been stripped and re-varnished).
