H D Folsom Arms Company Morris Canoes # 3740

We need pictures to tell you anything specific to your canoe aside from approximate ship date. There is a fair amount of information on the Morris Company in general... several articles in "Wooden Canoe" that are available from the WCHA store, and many discussions will come up when you use the "search" function on the right above.

MGC has Morris #3746... might be fun to compare them.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Canoe and the brass plate

Can someone please tell me about this canoe?

It looks to be in great shape. An excellent and worthwhile restoration project. More pictures would be nice. How long is it?

This is the only other picture I have at this time. I am a surveyor here in NC and my nephew inlaw found this canoe in a storage unit around Charlotte. I have not yet seen her but she appears in pretty good condition

It looks great. Grab it. Morris canoes are like beachfront property; they aren't making any more of it.

It probably had a center thwart originally, but everything else looks absolutely original.

Morris 3746 has the same Folsom plate. This canoe is possibly circa 1906 and appears to be 17-18 feet long and (as Norm said) is in great restorable condition. Can't determine from the pictures if the canoe has been worked on, but the color is a common original color (it's better to find a canoe that hasn't been "fixed up" merely to get it back into the water). Nice that it still has the floor rack. Look around for that middle thwart-- a canoe can get along without one, but it's nice to have if it's still there. Would be interesting to compare the history of this canoe with that of 3746, as they were both hanging out in Veazie, ME, at the same time and both went to a Folsom dealership.
