Five canoes!!

Am I overstepping here? I'm helping the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum sort through their small boat collection, and volunteered to get build records for some Old Towns they have. With the usual caveat about uncertainty of varnish-filled numbers, here the best I've been able to see on five boats:

115085-18
25139-16
106851-16
103722-18
112882-16

No hurry on this. There may be a hidden bonus in that I've also been asked to recommend de-accessioning boats that don't have great value as part of the collection - I'll let WCHA folks know if there will be any of these let go. There's at least one serious fixer-upper in the group that will challenge die-hard burn pile rescuers!

103722 is an 18 foot CS (common sense, or middle grade) HW model canoe with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, sponsons, a keel and was originally dark green. It was shipped to Riverhead, NY, July 7, 1930.

106851 is a 16 foot CS grade HW with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, sponsons, a keel, and an original dark green paint job. It was shipped to Eastport, ME, on September 6, 1930.

112882 is a 16 foot CS grade HW with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, thwarts, and seat frames, a keel and a coat of dark green paint. It was shipped to Nolan's Point, NJ, on May 31, 1934. There's an inquiry on the back of the card from Rumson, NJ, on 3/26/85.

115085 is an 18 foot CS grade HW with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, thwarts, and seat frames, sponsons, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, a bob stay, bilge keels, row locks, mast seat and step, full length bang plate, rudder, and a [your guess as good as mine] possible mast [but I am only inferring that based on the other sail rigging]. This canoe was painted [you guessed it!] dark green... but with "Ripple" on the right bow. Canoe was shipped to Essex County, NY, on July 23, 1935.

I'll look up the lower number in a bit-- that disk is occupied at the moment.

Additionally, it's still a no-go with image uploading, so I'll figure something else out.

25139 is a 16 foot CS grade HW canoe built between January and April of 1913. It has red Western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, birch decks, thwarts and seat frames, sponsons and a keel. Originally, it was dark green. Shipped to Dexter, ME on April 30, 1913.

Got them all!

Thanks, Kathy, for all the help. I'll let folks here know if the museum decides to sell off any of these. In the meantime, it is good to know that these boats and the information about them is all in one place.
