Canoe length

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Am restoring a Huron Canoe which measures 14 ft. 9 1/2 inches. Is it considered a 14 or 15 ft. Canoe. I also have a paddle made by Upper Canada Paddle Co. Looks like it was made from pine. Was it. Thanks. Jim

Hello,
I'd call it a 15 ft canoe. The length will vary a bit from one to the other event thought they are built on the same form. I have a couple canoes that measure the 7" mark. I would hope the builder would not short the customer when they ordered or purchased a certain foot length.

Pine is a very poor choice for a paddle. Generally, spruce was used as a softwood.

Hi. Thanks very much for the info. Although I have worked with wood, mostly pine and mahogany, I still have trouble with kinds of wood. Jim
