Build Your Own Old Town

Last night, while going through some old paddling magazines, I came across an Old Town ad from 1980 where you could build your own Old Town.
Did anybody here do this or is it known how many kits were sold??
Did the kit's include an Old Town Decal??

I can see the potential for some serious confusion if someone came across one of these "home built" Old Towns for sale today..............

I also came across a few items dealing with the WCHA and have attached one from 1983 that some may recognize themselves in.

The Old Town Canoe-in-a-Box or Kit was first listed in the 1980 catalog and lasted until 1985. I don't know how many kits were sold but it was not a big seller. The Old Town decals were replaced with an brass tag during this period as shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-85.gif on the 1985 catalog cover. I believe that the kit included one of these tags.

The catalog photos of the Canoe-in-a-Box also show the completed canoe with Old Town side decals (blue), but does not mention whether they would be included with the kit.

FWIW,
