:)I have a 1926 Old Town Charles River CS grade serial # 89418 and hoping to get a copy of the Build Sheet.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 89418 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and sponsons. It was built between January, 1926 and March, 1927. The original exterior paint color was maroon. It shipped on April 23rd, 1927 to Duluth, Minnesota. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,

Benson

Thank you Benson for your info and the build sheet! On a closer look at the stems the stern stem looks like 89418 with the last #8 having some missing on the left side. On the bow stem the number looks to be 89413. I tried searching the latter serial number but couldn't figure out from the enclosed link. Could this be 89413 ? Also: can sponson's be purchased or are there instructions on making them myself?
Thanks;

The Old Town canoe with serial number 89413 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Charles River model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, a middle thwart, birch seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between January and April, 1926. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on May 25th, 1926 to Carmel, New York. A scans of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail images below.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. Sponsons were typically added at the factory although there are some options available for adding them later. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration,

Benson

Occasionally sponsons are offered on eBay, but if you post here in Forums or in the classifieds on this website, saying you're looking for sponsons, someone may give you a pair.

In determining which of the build records is correct for your canoe, I've noticed that canoes don't seem to move-about much, even over the course of many decades... so the place where one was shipped may make more sense.

Thank you again Benson!
After getting the image of 89418 that was 17 ft. in length; I measured my canoe and it is only 16 ft. That's when I inspected the serial number very close and ; sure enough!
Thanks;
