Birch Canoes from across the pond

LOVES Wooden Canoes
I was at the Toronto Outdoor show today and came across a canoe builder (Northern Sound) from the U.K. Interesting variation on birch bark canoes. Because of a lack of birch bark theses fellows use a birch laminante. I suggested they look at the WCHA site & join.

Below is a lsit of their canoe materials.

Hull - Laminated Birch
Gunwales - Cedar
Ribs - Cedar
Thwarts - Cedar
Headboards - Cedar
Stems - Laminated Spruce
Lashings - Willow and Spruce root.

I was there on Sunday. Great looking birchbark replicas made just like the real thing with the exception on the laminated 1/8 inch thick plywood hull. The interior of their 16foot Algonquin replica had nice edge-to-edge planking and the canoe only weighed about 55 lbs. They also had Northwest style Dogrib canoes with painted interiors on display. Attached some pics...
