Another Canadian UFO identified as Capital Boat Works Ottawa Ont

Treewater

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
16 ft, 32" wide and 12" deep. The ribs here are flat on top. This has the same gunnel door hinge marks, same place same size. Must be the same oar locks? It's a little rough and been fiberglassed. No seats, no sign of sail mast. Someone drilled two holes in the front deck. There's sign of a triangle on this deck. No Robertson screws. No sign of a serial number on the interior. What is it?

It's dark but I found the builder. Capital Boat Works Ottawa Ontario. Picture, center thwart. Some online research...Originally the Dey Bros boats in Ottawa, it passed to their foreman E.F Dey in 1897 and stopped building about 1920. That's what I get. Anyone else?

WOW thats kool. Square ribs and one piece decks, thats an oldie worthy of restoration. Pretty far away from Canada now, eh!

I just put a Capital Canoe and Boat Works catalog scan on my site:
Thanks Dan. Good catalogue. Good explanation of the building process.
Question....when measuring the size do I measure from outside wales or inside next to boat hull? Then, with a straight edge on the wales, do I mrasure to the top of the keelson or the bottom?

Sunny day outside. I'm stripping the fiberglass. This is a first for me. I've done half the boat so I'll come inside to read up on how to correctly do this.

I didn't intend to spend my day taking fiberglass off a canoe...but....
And ...why the eye bolt?...both sides same place
And..... right side, forward... where I hold two fingers...an 1 7/8 by 1/2" tag ..looks to be original.. nothing but"101".... serial or model number?

Getting that fiberglass off. I am struggling with mine

I used gloves and a torch. I was over daring and had several fires. The garden hose put them out quickly...or I slapped. The last 15% the torch was out of propane and I used a heat gun. I should have started with the heat gun . Slower but I didn't have fires. Probably equal time wise.
