70's Yellow Fiberglass Old Town Tripper?

I stopped on the side of the road yesterday to check out a canoe for sale. It claims to be an Old Town Tripper but I have never seen one quite like it and I am hoping that someone can help with identification, particularly the construction. It appears to be fiberglass, and in pretty good condition but I have never seen a fiberglass Tripper, or a yellow one in person for that matter. I think based on the serial number it might have been made in Feb 1973 but that is as far as I was able to get with my own research. The id plate has a number of XTC93099M73G. Any information would be greatly appreciated so I can consider adding this one to my growing collection haha. Thank you so much.

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with hull identification number XTC93099M73G and serial number 193099 is a 17 foot long fiberglass Carleton Voyageur model that weighed 85 pounds at the factory. It was built between January and February, 1973. The original exterior gelcoat color was yellow. It shipped on February 13th, 1973 to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The back side indicates that some scratches were buffed out and a credit was issued in December, 1973 due to some problems with the gelcoat. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Page five of the 1973 catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_3dc40e3c6fe74b54b61479c1813887d6.pdf has more details. This is the same design as the Tripper model. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the decision,

Benson
