Hi, recently purchased two Old Town Canoes, the serial # are

181677 16

170961 18

Wondering what kind they are ? Any history, they have been stored for 20+ years, the are in excellent cond. The 18 footer has a double hull ? per prior owner, looks like extra wood etc.

Thanks Damon

Hi Damon,

The only history worth note is that they were both shipped to Merrill WI - the 16'er in 1969 and the 18"er in 1961.

181677 is a 16' Guide with a keel. There are no other details, the color was blacked out. It was shipped on 3/14/1969 to Merrill WI.

170961 is an 18' Guide model, with half ribs and a keel. It was painted Guide Special Green and shipped to Merrill WI on 5/18/1961. The half ribs (rib material on the bottom of the boat between the full ribs) are probably what you refer to as "double hull". Scans of the build records are attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
