We just inherited my wife's grandfathers 16ft Old Town canoe and wanted to research some additional information on it. It's serial number is 127830.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 127830 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with a keel, a floor rack, mast seat, and mast step. It was built between June, 1939 and March, 1940. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design43.gif which was known as the design number 43. It shipped on March 11th, 1940 to Saint Louis, Missouri. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Please attach a picture if the original design can still be seen. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Thanks,

Benson

Thank you for the quick response and information regarding our wooden Old Town canoe. That appears to be it; we just got it from Missouri, where it has been in storage for some time. The original paint job can only be seen underneath some chipped paint from its last paint job. We will be refurbishing it soon and will post pictures throughout this process.
