I would like to get as much information as possible regarding this canoe. I believe it is about 40 years old. I's a great little canoe and I enjoy it immensly. tks.Denys

The Old Town canoe with serial number 185016 is a 15 foot long Trapper model with fiberglass instead of canvas, rub rails, and a keel. It was built between April, 1970 and April, 1971. The original exterior paint color was red on top or above of the rub rail with white below the rub rail or on the bottom. It first shipped on April 29th, 1971 to Shrewsbury, Mass. The back side of the card shows that it may have moved to Old Lyme, Conn. by 1980 when there was a previous request for a copy of this build record. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links behind the thumbnail images attached below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Thank you so much Benson. I figured my canoe was about 40 years old and I was very close. It Was shipped to Shrewsbury Ma. where I bought it in the spring of 1971. I am the original and only owner. it never went to Old Lyme Conn. Someone made a mistake with their serial number when they requested a build record. I've had 40 great years of pleasure with my canoe and I just had some work done on it so I'm all set for another 40 years. Thanks again Denys
