148489 16 OT boat

The Old Town boat with serial number 148489 is a 16 foot long, All Wood Sea model boat with 58 inch decks, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and rowlocks (oarlocks). It was built between April and June, 1947. The original exterior paint color was white with a tropical red bottom. It shipped on June 4th, 1947 to Watertown, New York. A scanned copy of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your boat. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson, Thanks for the build record on the boat, but evidently, I had the wrong number. The boat is a 16' canvas covered boat. Can you try 148439 16 to see if that's the correct number. Thanks, Gil

Well Gil,
'Fraid your are gonna have to check the number again...

14839 is on a 15' 50# in CS trim with ash seats, decks and thwarts - It was dark green and shipped to the Shaker Village Work Camp in New Lebanon NY in June of 1947.

Thanks Mike,
I'll do a tracing, since the number is so faint. Maybe that will give the correct number. Gil

Wrong info will get the wrong result every time- guaranteed. 143439 16 appears to be the serial number from the pencil rubbing, although I'm not certain. Kathryn, thanks for the info on a digital camera, but I haven't a camera that has enough detail. Gil
