Lew: Check the number again. The Old Town canoe with serial number 5783 comes back to a 16' AA grade HW from 1907. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

My guess is that you may have the Old Town with serial number 157839. This is a 13 foot, AA (or top) grade, fifty pound model. It was built between May, 1952 and February, 1953. The original exterior paint color was dead grass. It shipped on February 20th, 1953 to Gaylor, Michigan.
