# 129931 old town HW?

Hello,

I have acquired my second w/c boat of course while still finishing the first one...

I was told that it is a 1940 OT HW model. I'm not sure if the previous owner has posted here or not but a search of my number didn't turn anything up.

I have heavily researched my '28 otca, but know nothing about the HW, I have only read the OT catalog page from 1935. Is this considered the "white water" model? did it have heavier canvas on it?

(my parents picked up the boat in CT while I coordinated from WA state, I'll be back in home NE in Nov) Thank God for understanding parents!

Ryan: The Old Town canoe with serial number 129931 is a 17 foot long, CS grade, HW model with open spruce gunwales, sponsons, a keel and a floor rack. The canoe was built between April and July, 1940. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It was shipped on March 10, 1941 to Newark, New Jersey. Hw

I too have an HW. It is generally believed to mean Heavy Water. The hull is more rounded, but still stable. It has a nicer feel in big waves, like on Superior or any big waves. Flat bottoms tend to roll and pitch more than round bottoms. Pick up a copy of Old Town OUr first Hundred years. It's a good history of OT and very interesting and mentions HW.
