Paint color?

I saw this picture on the Forum several years ago. Does anyone recognize the canoe? I would like to correspond with the owner/builder to find out what the paint colors are - custom or commercially available, etc. Thanks, Lew

At long last I can say it's done. Now I just have to wait until spring to try it out. Now Jean and I each have a solo canoe.

Hull was half built by the late Jack McGreivey, completed and finished by me. It is his Detroit 15 Bantam model of which he built only three. White Cedar ribs and planking, cherry outwales, thwarts and seat. I bought just the hull from Jack. It did not have thwarts or a seat. I made those. No. 12 canvas, Kirby enamel, Epifanes varnish on gunwales, decks, seat & thwarts. Total Boat varnish on interior. I bought it from Jack a number of years ago but...

All three paint colors are Kirby. The green is #35 Semi-gloss Seaweed. The red pinstripe is #8 gloss See Red. I don't seem to have any of the cream color left over and I can't remember the name of it. I have a great memory, unfortunately it's short!

Jim - Thank you for the paint info - I will be in touch with George Kirby Jr. about ordering some paint. He correctly guessed that the green was his #35 Seaweed! Happy Holidays, Lew

Jim, really nice to see that boat . WOW That green is so natural inland or on the waters edge. I think the separate stripe makes the whole thing work....clean, neat and just the right balance of all three. ( maybe a little green tint for the bedding ? ) Just saw the seat drops.....My-oh my. Did you leave out the thwart inlays ?
