Canoe camp can be an important, formative experience for a young person.

Since 1965, sections of campers and staff from Taylor Statten's Camps Wapomeo (young ladies) and Ahmek (young men) have set out on 50 day long canoe trips. During the summer of 2018, 4 cabins of young ladies from Wapomeo and 3 cabins of young men from Camp Ahmek completed 50 day long adventures.

Photographer Mike Last has captured their return from these experiences.

50 Days Stronger - The Young Women of Camp Wapomeo

"Overcome with emotion as they completed their incredible journey, this project hopes to share the faces and memories of these powerful young women at their strongest. No comforts of home, no makeup, and the clothes on their backs – this is as real as it gets. We hope it will provide inspiration to future generations to create incredible connections, both with themselves and nature."

This is a great display of pictures and recollections of strong youth--girls, young women, boys, & young men--all gathered to canoe. My daughters grew up canoeing, but they never had the chance to do a 50 day trip. Maybe, someday, we can do one together. Thanks for sharing!
