Pointer Boats and Tom Thomson painting

Rob Stevens

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
I find Phil Chadwick to be an interesting artist, who dissects the paintings of Tom Thomson. This blog is about pointer boats aka bateaux, traditionally used by lumberjacks in the northeast to transport supplies.

Way back in the day, I did a 5 day trip on the Spanish River in a replica pointer courtesy of the Friends of the Spanish River. There were 6 rowing positions in that 22ft boat. We had 4 rowing, while 2 ranged in a canoe taking photos, etc.
Of course, rowing was different for us canoeists as you move along the river with your back to the direction of travel.
