Sheena,

Canoe #68276 fits into the Old Town numbering system but unfortunately, when I check the scans, 68276 & 68275 come up missing. When I look at #68274, I find that it was shipped on April 11, 1922 and # 68277 was shipped on May 15, 1922...so this should give you a close date on your canoe. If you post pictures here, you will receive help from others on identifying the model, etc.

Thanks for contacting the WCHA.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 68276 is a 16 foot, CS grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash trim, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between December, 1921 and February, 1922. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It shipped on March 22nd, 1922 to Wapakoneta, Ohio. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below.

These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
