Hull ID 304 17

Have a canoe, canvas covered, similar to an Oldtown but I don't think it is an Oldtown. Hull number stamped on both stems is: "304 17". It looks like there might three initials between the numbers. it might be "304 NGC 17". Any idea what this is? Thanks, Gary

It might be a Kennebec since they used number 100307 on a 17 foot long Kineo Special model in 1923 and occasionally omitted the leading 100. Dave's suggestion of photographs is likely to be the best approach since there aren't enough other serial number records to identify a three digit serial number. The information and pictures at http://dragonflycanoe.com/wood-canoe-identification-guide/ may also help. The embedded letters may be a former owner's initials since this is not a typical serial number format.
