Square stern

Hummy

Canoe Dude
As I am searching and researching my upcoming wood canoe venture, I'm wondering if there is any reason other than having a transom to mount a motor on to have such a configuration...

Hummy,
Most vintage square stern canoes, such as the Old Town Square Stern Paddling Canoe....generally offered in 15' and 18' lengths, are not a craft that you would want to paddle. I own and use one and have restored others.
Small motor or rowing would be optimal.

Hummy,

If you are interested in paddling a square stern canoe, you may want to consider finding a Y- or V-stern canoe. Your motor can be mounted as with a square stern, but they still paddle nicely.

Good luck in your search.

Not really in the market for a square stern, just wondering why they made them like that...
